As part of the missionary and educational outreach of the Episcopal Diocese of Olympia, Camp Huston's purpose is to provide a Christian community experience which empowers individuals to identify religious truths as they emerge in the world around them. The goal of the camping program is to encourage the individual to relate to God as a recipient of God's gifts, as a steward of creation and as a member of a Christian community.
The emphasis of the program is on community development and personal growth. Through the guidance of trained counselors and staff, campers will have the opportunity to participate in a variety of cooperative games, hikes, worship, swimming, camp outs, singing, and reflection. Whatever the activity may be, time will be taken to discuss and learn from the experience.
Leadership is provided by resident Program Director Chelsea Mawson and Director Bill Tubbs, CCD. They are assisted each session by a resident staff, trained counselors, a chaplain, and a registered nurse.
Medical Examinations are required and accident insurance is carried on all campers. Medical forms will be sent upon receipt of the registration form. A complete list of things to bring to camp and other special information will also be provided.
Camperships - families interested in camperships (financial aid) should seek assistance through their parish clergy who, when appropriate, will request funding from the Curtis Campership Fund. In addition, funds are available through the Huston office.
Camp Huston
is accredited by the

"The showers continue to 'kick'
and the food was great."
- Session 3 Camper
Campers
are housed in rustic yet comfortable fully-enclosed cabins divided into
two groupings. The six Cascade cabins are clustered in the woods. The
eight Olympic cabins are arranged on the edge of the upper field. Each
group of cabins is serviced by a large, centrally located bathhouse with
hot showers. Delicious, well-balanced meals are served family-style in
the dining hall. Our Food Service Director is qualified with a B.S. in
Food Service, Nutrition, and Dietetics.
Campers enjoy an outdoor heated
swimming pool, easy access to the Wallace River, an archery range,
basketball court, overnight camping spots, and large play fields with
plenty of sports equipment. The arts and crafts center is kept
well-stocked, and is located beside the nurse's residence and health
house. Many campers take advantage of Camp Hu
ston's
Challenge Course. Evening worship services are held at St. John in
the Woods, our chapel, or at the campfire circle. Camp Huston's location
next to Wallace Falls State Park allows campers to use the park's hiking
trails.
"Kids' lives are so competitive now that
having a week where
they can be enjoyed solely for who they are is great."
